These publications can unravels the mystery of Brass & Woodwind instruments, as well as describing details regarding Repair & Maintenance they also give the player a better understanding of how the instrument works, and this is invaluable information, that can help the player to be much more comfortable with their instrument.
Manuel Number One is the Woodwind & Brass Instrument Repair & Maintenance Manual. This is possibly the only real alternative to the highly regarded Erick D. Brand manual published in 1946 which every serious brass & woodwind repairman should have on their bookshelf. And while the photographs in the manual are of very poor quality due to the period they were taken, the info is just as good as the D. Brand manual which has no photographs at all. I will not try and mislead you with fancy colour images, this is an actual photo from the manual, which as you can see is poor quality however the info & text which is fully word searchable as this is not simply a scan is just as good as the D. Brand manual which has no photographs at all and cost £30 plus. MANUAL TWO covers Saxophones, Clarinets and Flutes, although not as in-depth as the first manual this one is a lot more recent with better quality photographs and clearer step by step instructions. It covers disassembly, problems with screws, removing cork and pads, cleaning and buffing, fitting new pads, when and how to change springs, and play testing plus much more. As well as providing info of maintenance and repairs these manuals gave a fascinating insight to the mechanics if the Brass & Woodwind instruments, and help demystify how they work.
Instruction material includes Fingering Charts for Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Trumpet/Cornet, Tuba, Baritone Horn & Oboe in PDF format. All manual are present in PDF format, so computer requirements are very basic you simply need to be able to view PDF files which is the common format from most online manuals etc. Software is provided on the Disc for PC's and Mac users can down the latest free version from here
